RSS is a family of web feeds, generated in XML and used for web syndications. RSS is used by many news groups, bloggers and most recently pod-casters. The abbreviation RSS has changed over the past few years, must recently it stands for Really Simple Syndication which refers to RSS version 2.0. Previously it has stood for Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91, RSS 1.0) and originally RDF Site Summary (RSS 0.9 and 1.0)
RSS feeds provide up to date web content or summaries of websites. The feeds link together with the full content on the site. It is like having your own personal news ticker on your home page, keeping you informed on the latest events and can even be tailored to fit your individual needs. In order to take full advantage of these RSS feeds you will need a source through which to view them. The two most popular sources today are Yahoo! and Google.
